Molly Mormon

One may or may not be a stereotypical 40+ Mormon woman when:

*one begs one's sister Sus to haul her new Nutrimill wheat grinder over from Yuma so one can test it out on a new whole wheat bread recipe [ours came out more like biscotti. hard and flat].

*one begs long-suffering friend Molly (yes, Molly the Mormon) to come over and teach one how to can some of the 298756538 peaches one needs to use in the next 24 hours. A veritable Chinese army of peaches was canned (or bottled, technically).

*one begs friend Sarah C. to come over and make peach freezer jam with the remaining 38746 peaches. (it didn't set up--anybody need peach syrup? free shipping.) Next time one will use my cousin Molly's "use extra pectin powder" tip. [Cousin Molly not to be confused with Canning Molly.]

*one makes a killer peachy-keen cobbler recipe courtesy of Texas pal Patrice H. (made it four times)

*one signs up for pal Natalie's quilting courses.

*one is slightly obsessed with food storage.

*one is asked by a certain McSmartAleck when they turned 74 years old. No cobbler for you.

All your peachy-keen stuff amounts to a true thing of beauty. Oh, and welcome to Molly-Mormondom. When you find that perfect bread recipe, please share. I have an awesome wheat/white french bread that is done in an hour if you are interested. I am looking for a recipe that will be the perfect sandwich bread... preferably whole wheat... I know, I'm searching for a holy grail with that one. Love you hon!

I love it! With those type of skills you can call me Molly Mormon any day. Actually it made me think..... those are skills that ALL women once possessed pre-20th century. So not only are you a Molly Mormon, but hey, quite frankly a incredible self sufficient woman!

Ask McPeachy IF he ever saw a 74 yr old woman really move that fast? You're on fire!
I just love your enthusiasm, and endurance... and now I have to go take a nap to recover from yesterday (Sunday);)

YUM...so who cares if the stuff didn't set up. Pour it right over your waffles. Sounds like some fun stuff there. I'll be motivated in the next 2 years for that kinda homemaking. For now, it's paint, nest, paint, nest. Impressed with you!

There's something so satisfying about seeing all those beautiful peaches packed tight in jars lining the pantry shelves. Jared has been making some smart comments about my domesticity as well this year, but we'll see if his remarks are still snide when he's eating the goods this winter!

The cobbler looks delish.

The peach cobler looks devine! Also, I have a great wheat bread recipe. We use it for sandwiches, toast, you-name-it all the time. Let me know if you want a copy.

wow! I bet those bottled peaches are delish! Our peach tree here in good ol' Iowa produced not one peach this year. Guess we need to be a little more molly mormon around here.
