Exotic Adventures and Far Away Places

Well, well, well. Spring "break" is over. If you need me, I can most likely be found in my closet in the fetal position rocking back and forth sucking my thumb.

Really, now, we had a splendid spring break.

First we went to Africa on a jungle safari (or it could have been the zoo).
Hot tip #743: If you're worried that your child might get lost at a public place, forget those fancy silver ID bracelets, all pertinent information should fit concisely on any child's forearm.

Then there was the "Culinary Institute for Really, Really, Serious Bakers". We baked for hours in this little wonder, or at least until our hopes and dreams got dashed when the cakes looked more like parakeet droppings than the cake photos. A hex on Madison Avenue.

Moving on...NASA Science Camp. We learned much about the force of gravity. By dropping raw eggs off the balcony. Oh my, I do love a good experiment involving raw eggs.

If you must know, the raw egg wrapped in the diapers survived the fall off the second story balcony! But this was our third try--two previously failed missions (wrapped in paper towels, another in cotton balls) almost had us aborting the research altogether. Way to persevere, kids!

Not all was primroses. Pumpernickel was cited for testing my acrylic paints on her clothing and table, and she had to serve a little time upstate, if you know what I mean. Not the most exciting world adventure for her, indeed.

Alas, my stack of "must-read" books remained unopened on the nightstand. I suppose there's always summer "break."

Freeze!

I would have liked to be at Grand Central Station to witness this:
(Thanks Karie for forwarding it.)

Yep, it was swell...

NYC was magnifico. Really mind-boggling freedom and fun. Captivated by the eclectic pulse of the City. Great to be home, but I'm feeling a titch guilty as I'm thinking right now "Man, I wish I were back in NYC just for one more night..." I did miss the fam like crazy, let there be no mistake, and it was divine loving on my kids and seeing their eyes again.
Loved our little boutique (and affordable) hotel, right by Central Park, recommended by my cuz B. Weather a little dismal, as we were a bit water-logged for a couple of days, and about froze our chawangas off the last day with the wind. Posting a few photos now and will add some later--gotta go to bed and recover from my sweet vacation. Isn't that always ironic? McSuperman handled the kidlets with aplomb, although after I got home, he retreated to the bedroom and wasn't to be seen near or around the common areas of the house for 5-6 hours. I feel your exhaustion, McHadIt.

WICKED was just that--w.i.c.k.e.d. I'd seen it in Chicago a couple of times, but this time, we got to meet Elphaba, Glinda, the Wizard, Nessarose, the very handsome Fiyero (my sisters and nieces were going crazy for this guy) and some monkey dude outside the stage door. HELLO!! I almost for to mention that I saw my boyfriend Dan Abrams (of MSNBC fame) near Rockefeller Plaza. This I'm sure of because I yelled out "DAN!" and he turned around and stared at me. Before summoning security. Susan swore she saw Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa). My decade long crush on Dan came to a screeching halt after I noted that he is about 5'1. I mean, I could probably bench press the dude. Moving on.

Sister Power

Going to NYC with my two sisters tomorrow (and two nieces) for the weekend! Haven't been since I was like 10.

On the docket:

WICKED
Ellis Island (Statue of liberty)
Ground Zero
American Girl Doll Store Cafe for lunch
The MET and perhaps Frick
Rockefeller Plaza (we want to go ice skating)
Maybe the TODAY show stalkers (depends on if we can get up)

McSuperstud will be parenting solo for a few days, and will likely get a spiffy "I heart NYC" t-shirt to show for it. More later...

Hindsight

Hindsight really is 20/20 with this bad-to-the-bone camera. Inspired by my Iowa friend Brooke's "rear view mirror challenge", I decided to snap a few on the way to church today. (At least the baby was in her car seat. Church a block away, people). Like my new red lipstick?

Here's how McPartyPooper felt about the whole photoshoot:

Photos of the Week

Got a Nikon for Christmas from McSweet. More fun than I know what to do with. Just can't quit snapping, and frankly I think I'm already addicted to the sound of that click.

I always love the little swirly solar system thingy in the backs of babies' hair.
Pure magic.
