Exotic Adventures and Far Away Places

Well, well, well. Spring "break" is over. If you need me, I can most likely be found in my closet in the fetal position rocking back and forth sucking my thumb.

Really, now, we had a splendid spring break.

First we went to Africa on a jungle safari (or it could have been the zoo).
Hot tip #743: If you're worried that your child might get lost at a public place, forget those fancy silver ID bracelets, all pertinent information should fit concisely on any child's forearm.

Then there was the "Culinary Institute for Really, Really, Serious Bakers". We baked for hours in this little wonder, or at least until our hopes and dreams got dashed when the cakes looked more like parakeet droppings than the cake photos. A hex on Madison Avenue.

Moving on...NASA Science Camp. We learned much about the force of gravity. By dropping raw eggs off the balcony. Oh my, I do love a good experiment involving raw eggs.

If you must know, the raw egg wrapped in the diapers survived the fall off the second story balcony! But this was our third try--two previously failed missions (wrapped in paper towels, another in cotton balls) almost had us aborting the research altogether. Way to persevere, kids!

Not all was primroses. Pumpernickel was cited for testing my acrylic paints on her clothing and table, and she had to serve a little time upstate, if you know what I mean. Not the most exciting world adventure for her, indeed.

Alas, my stack of "must-read" books remained unopened on the nightstand. I suppose there's always summer "break."

Wow- what a great mom you are. We spent our spring break watching lots of tv and movies! Just kidding but we didn't have any egg dropping science experiments!

Love the pictures of the crossed fingers. Did the neighbors come out to watch what you were doing dropping the eggs off the roof? So fun!

OK, I feel like some clarification is in order here. First of all, I neglected to mention that the egg drop project was HOMEWORK for Caroline's class. do you honestly think I would have been like "Kids, let's waste several perfectly good eggs and diapers and make a super mess involving salmonella!" You know me better than that. And I would be remiss if I didn't admit that I was guilted into the Easy Bake oven. One can only say "No" for so long. I wish we did more stuff like this, but I'm afraid much of the spring break was wasted watching bad TV and playing computer games. Not supermom, but thanks for bestowing the title before you knew "the real story"!I'll take it!

Sounds like you had fun. Do you have photoshop? How do you get the text on the pictures?

oh you are so hilarious! I have been laughing out loud reading your post. A little time upstate. What a cute reference. I am also grateful school is back in session!

Delia,
Well hello there Utah cousin. I put the text on my photos from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0, which apparently came with our computer. NO idea how much it would be a la carte...
love it though.

Love the blog! Amazing pics and I love your sense of humor! Do you manually change your camera settings or leave them on automatic? I've been thinking about making the investment into a Nikon, I just want it to do the work for me and still make beautiful pictures. Is it a pain to carry around?

Andrea,
Nope, exclusively use the automatic. This camera will produce amazing photos no matter what you do. I durst not touch the manual settings yet until I know what I'm doing. About the size, I just put it around my neck and it has only knocked my kids a couple of times in the head where they've suffered level two head traumas. just kidding. It hasn't really been an issue, the size, that is. I highly recommend the Nikon, I think mine is the D40X.
